Shapeshifter
Shapeshifters are creatures defined by their ability to change their form in some way. Their shapes are shifted by magical means, but changes to their body are undetectable by most magical means, except for abilities that bestow truesight.
It is theorized that shape-shifting may be a trait that evolved independently, the various species of have the traite, are categorized as either subspecies, or maybe species under a group, called “shapeshifter”.
Subspecies
Section titled “Subspecies”A species of shapeshifter that can only change their form into one other specific shape, typically an animal with specific, identifiable features. Doppelganger
A species of shapeshifter that can change their form into any other shape, typically, but not limited to, humanoid. The only limitation is that they should have seen the person they wish to transform into at least once before. Changeling
They’re borne of a doppelganger and a humanoid. They’re limited to transforming up to only five different shapes over their lifetime. Face-Stealer
A species of shapeshifter that can only change their form after they’ve incorporated biological fragments of a person they wish to impersonate. They’re also limited into transforming into a finite number of shapes, but they can choose to “forget” a shape they’ve transformed into, and then transform into a new shape.
