Lime Schulze

Elizabeth Lime Schulze, usually known as Lime Schulze, is a hexblood druid associated with Gerta Moon’s Boarding School, La Camaraderie, and the Hags of Hama. She is identified in recent accounts as the holder of the Spirit of the Moon, a manifestation of lunar power rather than a case of ghostly possession.

Lime is best known among her companions for her orderly habits, protective temperament, and practical courage. She likes cleaning, neat rooms, marshmallows, stuffed toys, and her boarding school uniform. In later Seneran accounts, she became a key infiltrator in the investigations around the Travertines, the Reformist movement, and the Malthrek crisis.

Lime was left by her parents, Abraham and Juliette Schulze, at Gerta Moon’s Boarding School while it still operated in Sanery, and did not see them for roughly five years. Although the school shaped many of her habits, Lime’s later actions show that her obedience and neatness were never passive traits. She often acted as leader among the girls when they went out, looked after her friends, and was willing to place herself in danger to protect them.

During the Vengeful affair, Lime’s Schulze bloodline and history with Gerta Moon’s school became important in Senera. She operated under the name Elizabeth Schulze and exploited the fact that Germaine and Adelaide Schulze recognized her as a relative, though not as their daughter. This gave her access to Reformist meetings and let her investigate both her parents’ fate and the Reformist conspiracy around the Malthreks.

Gerta Moon’s Boarding School began as an all-female boarding school in Sanery. It served publicly as a strict school for girls and, more privately, as a refuge for magically gifted children whose families or communities had become dangerous to them. Its headmistress, Gerta Moon, taught cleanliness, obedience, and feminine self-command with unusual severity, while also protecting girls whom she believed were threatened by the Reformists or by hostile social expectations.

A Reformist attempt to seize the girls, together with the magical resources guarded by Gerta and Atomina Russell, forced the school to abandon its Sanerian site. Gerta’s plan was to relocate the children to land she had bought on Sentimental Island, where the school could be remade as, or joined to, a protected orphanage. That relocation became the central movement of the Gerta’s Home affair rather than a simple change of address.

Lime’s time at the school explains several of her most consistent traits. She learned to value cleanliness and order, took responsibility for younger or more vulnerable girls, and kept a strong attachment to the school’s sailor-style uniform. She was part of a cohort that included Luana Victorique Dubreuil, Snow Skalla, Sigrid the Netweaver, Bianca Bentayga, Melki, and Fawn Plaisir.

The school also placed Lime within the older traditions of the White Witches. The Gerta Moon accounts describe her as representing the Spirit of the Moon, while other girls were connected to the spirits of spider, rain, snake, and sea. Later Vengeful accounts clarify that Lime was the holder of the moon spirit’s power, not a body possessed by a dead spirit.

Lime first entered wider adventuring records through the failed relocation from Sanery to Sentimental Island. The vessel carrying the students capsized during a storm, and their rescue by the Rozenmaiden drew Lime into the circles of La Camaraderie and the revived concerns of the Hags of Hama. The Sentimental Island accounts describe her as one of the girls recognized from Gerta Moon’s Boarding School and as a protective presence among the students.

Her connection to the moon later became politically and magically significant. During the Malthrek operations, companions warned Mark Malthrek to be careful around her because his lycanthropy had begun at the new moon and might become unstable under full-moon conditions. Oscar Savoy’s use of was later associated with revealing or confirming Lime’s moon connection.

After the Rozenmaiden saved Sentimental Island from undead attacks, the surviving Gerta Moon students were brought to the bog for the Parade of Spirits. The ritual revealed that Hedwig Rosenkrantz could not properly lead the rite because she was not the Moon Witch. Lime was named as one of the candidates for that office and accepted, choosing Justin Pasteur as her protector or token-holder. The same sequence preceded the group’s later displacement into the Feydark.

In the Vengeful affair, Lime participated in the investigation of the Travertines and the Malthrek household. Antoinette Malthrek took her to meet Germaine and Adelaide Schulze at a chapel associated with the Angel of Humility, where Father Charles Renaldi identified Adelaide as a high-ranking local Reformist. Lime maintained the fiction that she was Germaine and Adelaide’s daughter, using the role to keep access to the Reformist meeting after they recognized that she was at least a Schulze relative.

Lime’s infiltration gave the allied investigators several important pieces of information. She learned that Duchess Antoinette had no formal title in the Reformist hierarchy and that the Duchess’s value came from her access to the Thralmals and her Malthrek sons. She also heard the Reformists discuss the shards of the Emerald Shield of Spring and encouraged them to delay direct action against Angel Rannek so that Angel could collect more shards before they attempted an ambush.

Lime later returned to the chapel for a Candle Bearer test of devotion. The test demanded acts of arson, domination, magical manipulation, and eventually the killing of an urdefolcin. Lime subverted the test rather than accepting its moral terms: she bound Germaine with vines, used the situation to gather information, refused to kill the urdefolcin, and instead offered Germaine to the spirit of the forest. During this encounter, Germaine’s mention of Abraham Schulze caused Lime to recall her true parents before she was left at Gerta Moon’s Boarding School.

After the chapel operation, Lime continued to help track the Thralmal and hag dimensions of the crisis. She argued against confronting Antoinette too early, preferring to follow the Thralmal pool lead. At the volcanic pool site, she parleyed with hags connected to the Mother or Crone, identified herself with the Hags of Hama and the White Witches, refused to make careless oaths, and sought help against the Children of the Crone. She explained that Antoinette had been corrupted by an implanted aberrant parasite brought into Senera by the Reformist Church.

During the Castle Malthrek operation, Lime used the practical skills and social discipline that had defined her since her school years. She operated under cover near the kitchens, served tea properly in Duke Ellington Malthrek’s study, identified a deliberately shrouded fey presence around Oren Bell, and recognized Feywine. When a suspicious paladin-like figure threatened the group, Lime identified him as a bad paladin and Reformist. She also used to help the party move through the hidden route below the castle.

Lime had a complicated personal relationship with Justin Pasteur. Their separation followed Lime’s growing anxiety over being trapped in the Feywild. Her connection to the Spirit of the Moon made her feel increasingly displaced in comparison with the rest of the company, and she justified the split through Gerta Moon’s emphasis on duty before personal need. During the Vengeful affair, she privately told Justin that she was three months pregnant and that he was the father. The pregnancy had begun shortly before the group was pulled into the Feydark, but Lime and Justin only recognized it after their return. Unlike the time-distorted pregnancy associated with Aika Miura and Hans Kohler, Lime’s pregnancy was not altered by planar time distortion. Justin did not pressure her into resuming a relationship and promised to support Lime and the child however she wished. Lime later said that they would face the pregnancy together, without assuming that this restored their relationship.

The same conversation revealed Lime’s real name as Elizabeth and showed the depth of the bond created when she had inadvertently given Justin a Hag Token. The token provided a shared connection through sight, hearing, feelings, and sensations; Lime demonstrated it by letting Justin see through her eyes, feel the wind, and sense the baby’s life energy. Justin’s bloodline curse became urgent because Minfilia warned that it might pass to the child, and Lime and Justin agreed to seek a cure after the Seneran crisis.
