The Vengeful Open Hooks
The Vengeful Open Hooks
Section titled “The Vengeful Open Hooks”This is the living tracker for unresolved Vengeful campaign questions. Session notes still keep
their own Open Hooks sections as point-in-time records of what was open at that point in play;
this page tracks the current carry-forward state and can be updated when later sessions settle,
narrow, or retire a hook.
Use this page for questions that need future attention, not as a planning scratchpad. Broader prep,
scenario design, and speculative campaign planning can stay in threads/.

Status Key
Section titled “Status Key”- Active: still relevant to the current campaign state.
- Pending confirmation: likely answer exists, but needs transcript, audio, or Nico confirmation.
- Dormant: unresolved, but not currently driving play.
- Settled: resolved by later play or canon; keep only when the resolution is useful to remember.
- Rejected artifact: transcription noise, table chatter, or a false hook.
Active Hooks
Section titled “Active Hooks”Castle Rannek Disappearances and Compromised Security
Section titled “Castle Rannek Disappearances and Compromised Security”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- Where are Sandor Kethlas, Ulfa, Kethbjorn, Sinigral, Captain Blueberry, the guard captain, and the other missing Castle Rannek personnel?
- Why did forty-eight people disappear separately, and is carriage No. 12’s southeast trail a transport route, bait, or deliberate misdirection?
- Does Ulfa still carry the missing crystal-ball fragment that Sister Pira located to the southeast?
- Is Sandor alive, whose magical blood stained his robe and guest room, and how did Mallow’s puppet acquire his face?
- What happened in the bloodstained guest rooms, and who owned the recovered Bag of Holding?
- Does the Lord’s Judgment hold captives or evidence, or is its exposed connection to Kethbjorn a trap?
- Who charmed Sebastian Argras, and was Kethbjorn involved?
- Did Lilibeth’s fear reflect only Angel’s rebuke or another concern?
- Can hidden hags or protected sites in the Rannek region aid the search?
- What compromised Uther Rannek’s authentication safeguards, and did he issue Lance’s recall order?
- Where are Uther and Lance separately, and what is each man’s condition?
- Who were the frightened woman and baby found with Stacy, and why was the woman considered a future mother-in-law to one of Stacy’s sworn lords?
- Current boundary: Castle Rannek has been recaptured, Sebastian Argras has returned, and the force controlling Stacy released its hold. Those successes did not recover the forty-eight missing people or explain the stolen codes. Treat the missing as possible victims of deception, coercion, or abduction rather than presume treachery, but do not turn that investigative stance into a GM guarantee. The carriage trail, the Lord’s Judgment, and Kethbjorn’s role remain leads rather than established answers. Do not assume Uther has been replaced or personally issued Lance’s recall.

Crispin Mallow’s Rannek Operation
Section titled “Crispin Mallow’s Rannek Operation”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- Where is Crispin Mallow, and what is his present objective in the Rannek Marches?
- Does his assignment to recover Angel’s shards of the Emerald Shield of Spring remain his priority, or has it become secondary to his experiments?
- What is he preparing with his “legendary collections,” altered shapeshifters, and Urdefolcin components?
- How did the Castle Malthrek intervention force him to accelerate the Rannek attack?
- Where is his remaining self-disassembling dungeon puppet, and is it active in the region?
- Did he direct the recent disappearances and southeast trail, or is another operator involved?
- Current boundary: Crispin is a human fleshcrafter and displaced Dragonheart, not an ancient dragon, cambion, or Face-Stealer. His “taking on faces” is physical fleshcraft, and the Gilded Anatomy is a counterfeit dragon form built around stolen Auraxx tissue. His involvement in the Mark-shaped golem is confirmed, but responsibility for the forty-eight disappearances and the southeast trail remains strongly suspected rather than proven. His escalation may reflect a larger Reformist operation, a genuine loss of control, or both.

Stacy Cartwright and Auraxx
Section titled “Stacy Cartwright and Auraxx”- Status: active, partially settled
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- What force controlled Stacy’s Auraxx-grafted body, how did Mallow impose that control, and is its release permanent?
- What magical or medical intervention will remove the remaining control graft and Auraxx tissue safely, and what recovery will Stacy require afterward?
- How did Mark acquire the gold canary, what did he know about Auraxx, and how did the figurine pass from him to Stacy?
- Where is Mark now?
- Who cursed Auraxx, and was the curse-maker connected to whoever foresaw or studied the Realm Bridge?
- Does Auraxx remain conscious within the figurine, can he speak through its giant-canary form, and what would release his soul?
- What exactly does “a life must end” require beyond its current minimum referent of Stacy’s life?
- Current boundary: Stacy remains alive. The controlling force released its hold after the transformed grafts were destroyed, leaving her unconscious and badly injured. Canon establishes that her punishment is recoverable: restorative magic rejects the incompatible tissue, careful intervention can suppress the control graft, and Auraxx’s remnants can be removed without killing her. That does not settle the practical treatment, the controller’s identity, or whether the release will last. Auraxx’s dismantled body cannot be restored or revived; his soul remains bound within the damaged canary and may still be releasable.

Rannek Marches, Maiden’s Field, and the Admiralty
Section titled “Rannek Marches, Maiden’s Field, and the Admiralty”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- What has happened at Maiden’s Field, and are the Rannek relatives and forces there safe?
- Which Hickland for Hicks cells, churches, road guards, military posts, and settlements have been compromised?
- Who resumed the black-powder network and is supplying the Maiden’s Field forces with weapons, equipment, and explosives?
- Who warned Tyrion Donmar from Admiralty’s Helm, and how broadly was naval command compromised?
- Where is the real Marshal Kilkenny, and had he already been replaced when the investigation into Father Charles Renaldi was redirected?
- What additional screening can detect other shapeshifters, coerced personnel, forged identities, and mundane traitors?
- What do the Admiralty facility’s academy-built magical protections actually do, and how can Castle Rannek’s surveillance and defenses be adapted against copied identities?
- Current boundary: Castle Rannek is secured and Donmar commands the western facility, but most regular troops remain deployed toward Maiden’s Field. Andrew and Sapphire’s team is conducting reconnaissance rather than launching a general assault. Anatomical screening can positively identify Face-Stealers; passing it does not prove loyalty or exclude other forms of infiltration.

Reformist Network and Aberration Threat
Section titled “Reformist Network and Aberration Threat”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- Who supplies the Reformists with Face-Stealers and parasites, and where do those agents and parasites originate?
- Who controls the immense aberration egg moved to Raibon Island, and where is it now?
- Are Reformist operations preparing an aberrant or extraplanar invasion, or is that appearance concealing another objective?
- What is the actual composition and effect of the green liquid, and how does it relate to parasites, aberrant transformation, and the claimed transfer of power?
- Are the Reformists seeking ancient ruins, runes, Orbs of Power, or another magical resource?
- Current boundary: Reformist infiltration, food contamination, parasite implantation, organ harvesting, and exploitation of political divisions are established. An elder brain, extraplanar invasion, and unified aberrant mastermind remain theories. Reports that the green liquid transforms victims into aberrations do not yet settle its ingredients, process, or whether it acts directly.

Castle Malthrek and Malthrek Survivors
Section titled “Castle Malthrek and Malthrek Survivors”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- How will Duke Ellington Malthrek’s parasite treatment preserve memory, identity, and continuity?
- What remains to be clarified about the Ring of Mind Shielding in that treatment?
- Where is Lady Maribel Veyne now?
- How does Crispin Mallow possess true seeing?
- What job did Emily give Veyne, if any?
- Where are the three Malthrek Court Wizards who remained unaccounted for after Stacy Cartwright’s return?
- Current boundary: Do not treat Malthrek survivor logistics as fully resolved until later sessions account for the missing people, parasite treatment, and morning-duty follow-up. Crispin’s identity and Auraxx theft are now tracked separately from the surviving Malthrek household. Duke and Duchess Malthrek were later reported at the Travertines while the Duke recovered, but that does not settle the treatment’s memory consequences or the missing court wizards.

Father Karam Dunweather
Section titled “Father Karam Dunweather”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-05
- Questions:
- What is Dunweather’s relationship with his parasite?
- Who is the “her” he is searching for?
- How does Dunweather’s idea of Greater Archon authority relate to Emily, Luana, and the Reformist hierarchy?
- Current boundary: Keep Dunweather as an active threat. Do not flatten his parasite relationship or his search into a settled motive yet.
- Sources:
Reformist Authority and Hierarchy
Section titled “Reformist Authority and Hierarchy”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-01
- Questions:
- What is Mistress of the Way as a Reformist position or title?
- How do Mistress of the Way, Greater Archon, Dark Archon, local Reformist hierarchy, and Carissa’s rank relate to each other?
- Can Emily, Sister Rachel, or Luana maintain or exploit the Greater Archon bluff?
- What does the Windham Castle countersign mean, and what is its exact wording?
- What formal authority do the peerage, Church, and Crown exercise over reforms proposed by Maria and Uther Rannek?
- Current boundary: Treat the authority web as unresolved. Luana can convincingly perform a higher role in the Count Ranlis road scene, but that does not settle the actual offices or ranks. Treat Maria’s account of separate but equal branches with limited royal ascendancy as her account, not settled constitutional fact.

Oren Bell’s Black Box and Aika Miura
Section titled “Oren Bell’s Black Box and Aika Miura”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-11
- Questions:
- How is Aika Miura connected to the Black Box, Emily’s bargain with Oren, and the effort to return the fey stranded in Senera?
- Why did Emily describe the box as her only way to help Aika?
- Current boundary: The box contains an item that slowly draws life, magic, and other resources within a one-mile radius into the Shadowfell. Emily’s bargain with Oren governs when he may open it, but Aika’s role remains unresolved. Do not restrict Aika’s title as the Mother to pixies: many fey accept it, and Day Court statuary also presents her as the Mother. Its exact scope and its relationship to Baba Yaga and the False Crone remain unsettled and may require adjudication from the player who runs Emily and DMs those Feywild games.

Eastonton Green Lord Grove and Teleportation Circle
Section titled “Eastonton Green Lord Grove and Teleportation Circle”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-11
- Questions:
- Why does the Green Lord’s grove stand within the Kalassarian ruins beneath Eastonton?
- How does the grove relate to the nearby teleportation circle that Kelthyr could sense but not see?
- What can Marcus Parnassus reveal about the ruins, grove, and circle?
- Current boundary: The transcript’s “Green Lord-associated girl” is an ASR error for the Green Lord’s grove. Jessica is introduced separately as an actual girl. Keep the grove and the hidden circle distinct while their relationship remains unresolved. Marcus is the Kalassarian scholar Minfilia raised as an intelligent skeleton beneath Eastonton.

Teleportation Circle Construction Scale
Section titled “Teleportation Circle Construction Scale”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-11
- Question: How do the material requirements for a newly constructed teleportation circle scale with its radius and practical capacity?
- Current boundary: Larger circles can carry more travellers because more people fit within them, but the corresponding construction mechanics and material scaling remain unsettled until resolved in play.
- Sources:
Teleportation Circle Operation at the Admiralty Facility
Section titled “Teleportation Circle Operation at the Admiralty Facility”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Question: Who can read the teleportation spell without stuttering and supply a known destination sigil so the western Admiralty facility’s circle can be used?
- Current boundary: Several ordinary Orbs of Enhancement are already available and can supply the material cost and spell-slot requirement. They do not replace the need for a competent caster or destination knowledge. Keep this operational problem distinct from the unresolved construction scaling of new circles and from the orb associated with the submarine prototype.

Thrantorbury Time Loop
Section titled “Thrantorbury Time Loop”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-02
- Questions:
- How can Minfilia Diaz and Oscar Savoy be freed from the Thrantorbury time loop?
- What can Tiphanie tell John or the wider group about the loop?
- Current boundary: Minfilia and Oscar are confirmed trapped, but the cause, limits, and remedy remain unresolved. Kelthyr is also in Thrantorbury; his presence does not establish that he is caught in the same loop.

- What is the status and purpose of the Sanery/Seneran bishop transfer?
- Current boundary: Keep these as active leads rather than settled background logistics.

Mayonne, Soul Gems, and Replacement Bodies
Section titled “Mayonne, Soul Gems, and Replacement Bodies”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-05
- Questions:
- How do soul gems, face stealers, soulless replacement bodies, and duplicate bodies work?
- Are duplicate bodies simulacra, flesh golems, another vessel type, or something else?
- How much of this is Apgar-specific, Reformist, or broader world technology/magic?
- Current boundary: Do not settle the vessel mechanics or body taxonomy from one scene’s wording.
- Sources:
Submarine Handling and Technology
Section titled “Submarine Handling and Technology”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-05
- Questions:
- What is the submarine’s exact operating mechanism?
- Which magic items are functional parts of it?
- Is the orb involved a known Orb of Enhancement or something else?
- What does La Camaraderie learn when they inspect the prototype?
- Current boundary: The submarine is a prototype asset and clue cluster, not a fully explained vehicle system yet.

Parasites, Brining, and Food-Supply Threats
Section titled “Parasites, Brining, and Food-Supply Threats”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- Does salt preparation truly counter parasite eggs?
- Does strong brining reliably protect against parasite contamination, and does plain sea salt work?
- Does killing parasite hosts alert the parasite network?
- How much can the network perceive about a host’s location, intended movement, or impending death?
- Which memories, relationships, and emotions can be lost when a parasite is removed?
- Can the discovery help Eastonton, Surrey, Port Surrey, or Surrey-on-the-Brams?
- Are Northcross, the Fruit Merchants Guild, and Reformist supply routes institutionally connected, individually compromised, or being misused?
- Current boundary: The parasite-food link and gradual alteration of behavior, awareness, and identity are real enough to track, but exact countermeasures, network perception, post-removal memory loss, scalability, and political responsibility remain unresolved.

Podron’s Sanctuary
Section titled “Podron’s Sanctuary”- Status: active

Hag-Road, Duel Forms, and Fey Law
Section titled “Hag-Road, Duel Forms, and Fey Law”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-07-04
- Questions:
- What do the duel terms mean?
- What does “bound by the forms” mean?
- What are the mechanics, authority, and legal consequences of hag-road oaths and protections?
- How should Helga’s prophecy be treated once confirmed?
- Current boundary: This may be Feywild-side law adjudicated by a player rather than Nico. Keep exact consequences open until that adjudication exists.
- Sources:
Seneran Elven Boons and Fey Constraints
Section titled “Seneran Elven Boons and Fey Constraints”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-06-27
- Questions:
- Do Elven Boons bind the veil?
- Is the next target definitely the Topaz Sword of Summer?
- What happens if a Boon is broken while its wielder is bound?
- Can Kelthyr or other fey-blooded people ever leave Senera?
- Current boundary: Keep the Boon/veil/fey-blood constraints open unless later canon settles the exact rule.
- Sources:
Urdefolcins, the Green Lord, and Retained Magic
Section titled “Urdefolcins, the Green Lord, and Retained Magic”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- What are Urdefolcins’ origins, biology, masks, and mechanism for “planting” Shambling Mounds?
- What did Mallow intend to do with the Urdefolcin-heart fragments in his puppets and collections?
- How does the Green Lord’s power still reach Senera, including active shrines and the grove beneath Eastonton?
- Did elves, forests, or orb materials retain magic during the centuries when magic was believed absent?
- Does Sapphire’s theory about this world’s magical orbs reflect actual magical history?
- Current boundary: Urdefolcins are ancient non-humanoid forest protectors, and their remains are used in rituals, curses, and Mallow’s puppets. That does not settle their taxonomy or make every Urdefolcin fragment part of one plan. The surviving Green Lord influence and Sapphire’s orb account are observations and theories, not yet a unified explanation.

Sapphire, Dandy, and the Brewery Route
Section titled “Sapphire, Dandy, and the Brewery Route”- Status: active
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Questions:
- Why was Sapphire exiled from the Feywild, and what does she fear may happen on the coming “bad day”?
- What became of Dandy’s companions after Sapphire carried him into the brewery?
- Current boundary: Dandy’s account of rebirth through the Great Tree and the Water of Life is folklore attributed to his grandfather. Sapphire presented herself as sixteen and discussed celestials stopping their age, but did not confirm that she chose to remain sixteen. Bramis is Satoria’s husband and a Maidenfeld sailor associated with the Ginger Root.

- What did Maria mean when she said that “Mallow has been stumped”?
- Are Captain Blueberry, Mulberry, Bramble, and Cinnabar the correct names and spellings?
- What insignia appeared on Sandor’s small robes?
- Who was addressed as Faraldin?
- Who participated in the face-copying disguise, and who was the aberration-fighter addressed approximately as Philia?
- What was the destination southwest of the reconnaissance route?
- Is Bramis the captain of the Ginger Root, or does he hold another role aboard it?
- Current boundary: Keep these as review and identification questions rather than building new operational lore around uncertain wording.

- Last touched: 2026-07-05
- Questions:
- Which Legally Bare submissions are in-world letters, and which if any describe true events?

- Questions:
- Can elven food supply routes realistically help Seneran or Surrey-linked food problems?
- Are mountain or Mt. Thibris teleport routes viable for moving food or support?
- Current boundary: Keep as a logistics constraint, but it is not the most immediate open thread unless later play returns to supply routing.

Settled or Boundary-Only Carry-Forward
Section titled “Settled or Boundary-Only Carry-Forward”Castle Rannek Recapture and Stacy’s Immediate Survival
Section titled “Castle Rannek Recapture and Stacy’s Immediate Survival”- Status: settled milestone
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Resolution: Castle Rannek was recaptured, Maria and Tyrion Donmar’s forces established a perimeter, and the immediate impostor occupation ended. Stacy survived the destruction of her transformed grafts; the controlling force released its hold, leaving her unconscious but alive.
- Carry-forward: Do not reopen “Can the party retake Castle Rannek?” or “Can Stacy survive the transformed grafts?” as broad questions. Track the missing personnel, compromised authentication, Stacy’s treatment, and the controller’s identity as the narrower unresolved consequences.

Crispin Mallow’s Nature and Facecraft
Section titled “Crispin Mallow’s Nature and Facecraft”- Status: settled boundary
- Last touched: 2026-08-08
- Resolution: Crispin is a human fleshcrafter and displaced Dragonheart. His borrowed faces and Gilded Anatomy are physical constructions; they do not make him a Face-Stealer, cambion, ancient dragon, or true dragon.
- Carry-forward: His source of true seeing, current location, dynastic use, and operational objectives remain open.

Luana, Cinna Moan, and Summoned Fey Spirits
Section titled “Luana, Cinna Moan, and Summoned Fey Spirits”- Status: settled boundary
- Last touched: 2026-06-28
- Resolution: Luana Victorique Dubreuil is School Girl Cinna Moan, not a separate Cinna character. Earlier Luana-like summoned fey spirits are distinct from mundane Luana. The later dream/astral manifestation near sleeping Luana remains mechanically unresolved.
- Carry-forward: Keep the identity boundary settled while tracking the manifestation mechanics elsewhere if it becomes active.
