Benoit Marconne

Benoit Marconne, also known as Camden Dubreuil, is a young human heir connected to the Dubreuil family and the Parvese Houses of Pleasures of Port Rainoso. He was raised under the patronage of Rosemunda Parvese, who presented him as a foundling rescued from the East Side while quietly preparing to use him in a scheme for wealth, inheritance, and renewed youth.

By the age of sixteen, Benoit had become a floor manager in the Miller Street House and was being prepared for higher managerial duties. Those close to the Sea Hags affair, however, came to believe that his apparent advancement was also a form of containment. Rosemunda kept him grateful, isolated, and dependent while concealing the larger value of his identity.

Benoit was said to have been found on the streets of Port Rainoso’s East Side and taken in by Rosemunda. In truth, he was the only known living male heir of the Dubreuil family, the makers of one of the Apgar Confederacy’s best-known cognac brands, and the older cousin whose disappearance affected Luana Victorique Dubreuil in her youth. A substantial bounty had been offered for information leading to his recovery, supported by identifying marks that could prove his identity.

Rosemunda’s agents appear to have found Benoit before the Dubreuil family or its allies could recover him. She initially had reason to use him as a bargaining piece, but the prospect of soul transfer changed her plans. Once Iluvia Wunderplat described the abilities of the Soul Stone, Rosemunda saw a path to claim Benoit’s body and inheritance for herself.

Under Rosemunda’s care, Benoit was trained to accept increasing responsibility in the Parvese Houses of Pleasures. He was grateful to Rosemunda and tended to interpret her control as protection or rescue. This made him difficult to warn, because he had not been openly imprisoned and did not understand the degree to which his choices were being managed.

Rosemunda’s intended endgame was to transfer her soul into Benoit’s body once he was sufficiently attached to her and properly positioned for inheritance. She would then have Benoit, trapped in her old body, poisoned. The arrangement would allow her to gain the Dubreuil inheritance while also arranging for Benoit to become sole inheritor of the Parvese estates, consolidating both fortunes under her stolen identity.

Benoit entered the wider Raibon affair when Rosemunda brought him to the Meeting of the Four as an apparent reward for good service. During the gathering, he joined the Chicken Chase game and met Pecorine. He became enamored with her and made a wager: if he won, he would take her to dinner the next day; if he lost, he would meet her for lunch wearing a chinchilla costume. Either outcome would allow him to meet someone outside the House of Pleasures in a setting not defined by customers or Rosemunda’s business.

Benoit lost the wager and met Pecorine and Anton Lightning for lunch. The meeting revealed his desire for ordinary friendship and a life beyond the Miller Street House. It also showed how deeply Rosemunda’s influence shaped his loyalties, even when her surveillance and control were visible to outsiders.

Pecorine and Anton planned to bring Benoit to a Mirian Trading Company Fight Night, where he could be warned about Rosemunda’s plan to take over his body. The plan linked Benoit’s rescue to the broader effort to negotiate with Justus, the company’s Port Rainoso liaison, and to the factional settlement that followed the Meeting of the Four.
