Adeline Plaisir

Fawn Plaisir was the nickname and school name of Adeline Plaisir, a young student associated with Gerta Moon’s Boarding School and the Hags of Hama. She is recorded as the holder, or intended holder, of the Spirit of the Snake. Her disappearance during the Reformist attack on the school became one of the more damaging failures in the early Gerta Moon accounts.

School records describe Fawn as a cheerful orphan with brown braided pigtails and red ribbons. She liked traps, bows, and the idea of hunting, and she showed a strong childish attachment to Galahad, the school’s guard. Her exact age is uncertain in surviving accounts, which place her either in late childhood or at the beginning of adolescence.

Fawn was part of the group forced from Sanery after Reformists attempted to seize both the girls and the magical resources guarded by Gerta Moon and Atomina Russell. The planned relocation to Sentimental Island failed when the students’ vessel capsized in a storm, leading to their rescue by the Rozenmaiden. Her known schoolmates included Lime Schulze, Luana Victorique Dubreuil, Snow Skalla, Sigrid the Netweaver, Bianca Bentayga, and Melki.

Identity Complication

During the Reformist attack on Gerta Moon’s school, Fawn was replaced by a Face Stealer who assumed her identity among the students. The true Fawn was not kept as a major prize; the Reformists apparently failed to recognize her importance and sold her into slavery. Later references to Fawn in the Gerta’s Home records must therefore be read carefully, since some describe the real child and others describe the infiltrator occupying her identity.

Fawn was later rescued in Shagnery by members of the Rozenmaiden’s crew. At the time, the ship’s field command had temporarily fallen to Dominguez Tailleur, because both the captain and the first mate were occupied by other obligations. The Shagnery rescue confirmed that the real child had survived the replacement and sale.

After the Shagnery rescue and the defense of Sentimental Island from undead attacks, Fawn was among the Gerta Moon girls brought to the bog for the Parade of Spirits. The same sequence of events led into the group’s displacement into the Feydark.
