Threads: The Maltreks
At the discovery of the parasitic aberration in their mother’s brain, Luke, Mark and John Malthrek are concerned that their father Duke Ellington Malthrek, and to a lesser extent, their younger brother Matthew might be similarly infested. However, since their brother is currently in the University of Thrantorbury, their immediate concern is that the Duke may be making decisions that would benefit the Reformists greatly.
Is there a Hicklander presence?
Hicklander presence may be low. There may have been an early violent repression close to the castle.
Yes. as it is, the local non-magical inhabitants are not directly affected. they are not a “palatable” vessel for the parasites, but they are actively dumbed-down by parasite eggs.
In the castle itself, the Seneschal, the head maid, clergy and court wizards all all Reformist now
The staff may be Reformist, or at least feigning to be. Do they still wear the trappings of Orthodoxy?
Yes, as they still get some supplicants and envoys. They do not yet want to be obvert about their presence, especially since they know that Crown Prince Marlion openly opposes them. What do they know about the events in the Travertines?
They know that Rislas (Adelaide), Germaine, Father Renaldi, Pallia Travertine, Luke, Mark and Antoinette Malthrek, and a number of their followers are dead.
In truth, only Germaine, Renaldi, Pallia and the random followers are dead. The others just don’t have the parasites anymore.
- Funeral
- Because they think that members of the Ducal house are dead, a funeral is being planned.
- Duke Ellington is wearing grieving clothing.
- The entire city is in mourning as well. Non-critical work is suspended.
- Reformist ministers are using this moment to spread their belief system to the general masses. They find that many of the populace do have a distant fey ancestry. Distant enough that it’s weak. But this means there are a number of magic users without the tell-tale yellow eyes and hair. Many are shorter and stockier.
- Baron Dunum Highbury is already in the castle with his son-in-law Fagus Malthrek.
- Highbury isn’t Reformist, but Fagus became one after his wife cheated on him.
- Highbury has been hoping to secure a match for Fagus with one of his adopted nieces as reparation.
- They came here not really for the funeral, but are staying since they found out. Their staff are helping. These aren’t Reformists mostly.
- Revolt
- They’re planning an open revolt against the Crown. They know the Crown Prince in involved with the events at the Travertines, and they want to use it as a means to stir the Peerage into a disarray.
- They are inviting many of the minor nobility from non-Reformist aligned holdings to the Funeral, so that they also have a chance to plant parasites or agents in their territories.
