Ranlis
Ranlis is a Seneran noble family tied to Faltir, the local saltworks, and the political order surrounding Castle Malthrek. The family is represented during the Castle Malthrek crisis by Count Godwin Ranlis and Comtesse Aveline Ranlis.
Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Ranlis family appears in Faltir’s salt-founding story. In that account, a prospector found salt, mining and merchant allies followed, and the Maltreks eventually recognized or rewarded the operation. The exact legal history of the Ranlis title remains less clear than the family’s practical importance, but local accounts place the house close to the wealth and suffering created by the mines.
During the Castle Malthrek crisis, the family’s authority was visible in both public display and private hardship. An ornate Ranlis carriage procession passed through Faltir while poor locals collected trampled salt from the road to wash, filter, dry, and reuse. At the same time, miners faced increased quotas, long shifts, and exhaustion under a system associated with the Count’s household and with Aveline’s authority in Godwin’s absence.
