The Vengeful Campaign notes
What Happened So Far
Section titled “What Happened So Far”We first focus on Lilya Bkornblume, a lieutenant in the Royal Seneran Navy, and part of its Ground Command. Under the command of Lord Captain Boyle Eastonton, her squad’s mandate is to patrol the area in and around Port Surrey-on-the-Brams as a peace-keeping force.
In addition to their regular duties, their captain allows them to complete bounties issued by the Royal Navy’s Commissioning Office. Lilya and her squad want to earn enough money to commission a ship for themselves, and transition to Sea Command. Lilya has an ulterior motive for that however, is to be able to finally see dolphins in their natural habitat.
The members of her squad are:
- Corporal Jalester Silvermane
- Private Kaelin Thralson
- Private Tormor Stavner
- Private Elmor Havelman
- Private Erik Bekker
One morning, after receiving a list of bounties from the Commissioning Office, specifically for one Murky Marbrams (150 gp for any information leading to his arrest), Lilya was approached by Kurris Wudward. Kurris explained to Lilya that her adoptive brother, Henry Surrata-Spellvig, heard that the Lord Malthren was dying, but had no heirs, so he decided to convince the aging lord to name him as the next Lord Malthren. In order to do so, he needed to go to the Narrows, which was infamously home to many of the island’s most dangerous criminals. Kurris was hoping that Lilya could escort Henry to the Narrows, and safely bring him back to Port Surrey-on-the-Brams. She told Kurris that she would think about it, but she actually already decided to do it. Mabrams, after all, was last seen in Tidemark, which they would have to pass through to get to the Narrows.
Meanwhile, in Tidemark, we met Philippa Vertin was preparing for the annual mission to the Narrows when she was called on by Sister Agatha Thralvig. The Bishop of Surrey had requested that one of his most trusted paladins, Sir Aigral Eastonton, join and lead the mission. Philippa did not mind, of course, and graciously deferred to Sir Eastonton. Most of the preparations were done at this point, the supplies just needed to be loaded onto the carriages that would take them to the Narrows.
Lilya didn’t tell Kurris what she decided, instead she went to Henry’s quarters, asked her squad to hogtie him, and carry him to the stables. She only explained that they were taking him to the Narrows after they were a distance away from Port Surrey’s southern gate. They rode straight through Admiralty Way, stopping only at the Crosswise Tavern to exchange horses and to replenish supplies.
At the tavern, they attempt to get information on Mabrams. They overheard that Mabrams maybe in the Narrows, but no one actually dares to claim the bounty for themselves. People also mentioned that the road to the Narrows was more dangerous these days than it already was, mentioning that there were raiders that had been attacking caravans and travelers.
Philippa and her group get stopped by a group of raiders who claim that they are members of Hickland for Hicks. Sir Eastonton was ready to deal with the raiders, but Philippa convinced him to let her handle it. She was able to calm the raiders down, and explained that they were a mission to provide food and healing to the people of the Narrows. The raiders were convinced, and let them through without incident.
Lilya, Henry and their companions eventually travel through the road to the Narrows and encounter the same group of raiders that accosted Philippa and her group. Since Lilya’s group is very obviously armored with Navy accoutrements, the raiders were immediately hostile. Lilya directly subdued the leader of the raiders before any of the others could react. She did not want to deal with them, so she gave them an ultimatum. Either they leave, or they will be dealt with. The raiders, realizing that they were outmatched, and that Lilya was not going to back down, decided to leave. Lilya then asked the raiders if they had seen Mabrams. They did not, but Lilya figured that they weren’t being entirely honest, but she decided to let them go for now. They then continued on their way to the Narrows.
Philippa and her group eventually arrive at the Narrows. Since she grew up in the Narrows, she was greeted by many of her old friends, and her own brother Philip met her by the entrance to the town. They begin setting up for the healing mission.
Lilya and Henry ask around the Narrows to get information on what kind of person Lord Malthren is. They are told that he is a recluse, and leaves the Narrows townsfolk to their own devices.
