The Vengeful Notes 2026-11-01
The Broken Capital
Section titled “The Broken Capital”- The party emerged from Thrantorbury University after stopping its time loop.
- The university’s barrier appeared to have spared it from the week of battles that devastated the surrounding capital.
- The group included Crown Prince Marlion, Tiphanie, Minfilia, Oscar, Matthew, Lime, Justin, Kelthyr, and Luana.
- Kelthyr reported Reformists covering the road, wall, and nearby gate, with a base near the cliffside.
- The party reviewed its objectives: kill Garward and rescue Madeline, King Alitar I Dragonheart,
and Queen Murwes Dragonheart, Marlion’s father and Kelthyr’s mother respectively.
- Madeline was initially the highest priority, but the group later argued for rescuing the king first, fearing an open assault would prompt his transfer to Sanery.
- Marlion thought Garward might be with his father, but their location was unconfirmed.
- Possible approaches to Castle Dragonheart included a tunnel, flight, or teleportation by Tiphanie.
- The castle’s immense teleportation circle had been broken for years, the airspace was probably watched, and Tiphanie had never visited the destination.
- The party therefore considered scouting with a familiar before committing.
- The group expected defenses tailored against them, possibly including HallowLevel 5 · Evocation24 hour · Touch · Until dispelledV, S, MYou touch a point and infuse an area around it with holy (or unholy) power. You inscribe it either on a surface (such as a table or a section of floor or wall) or within an object that can be closed (such as a book, a scroll, or a treasure chest) to conceal the glyph. The glyph can cover an area no larger than 10 feet in diameter. If the surface or object is moved more than 10 feet from where you cast this spell, the glyph is broken, and the spell ends without being triggered. The glyph is nearly invisible and requires a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC to be found. You decide what triggers the glyph when you cast the spell. - They believed the enemy probably knew about their necromancer and the Summer Sword, but these defenses remained predictions.
- Oscar confirmed Reformists on the battlements with a spyglass.
- A defender cast a fireball at a passing bird, apparently suspecting a familiar or other spy.
- The party considered a rear or sewer entrance normally illuminated by repeated magic, as well as Reformist disguises, though the enemy might recognize that tactic.
- The university appeared evacuated, and the rest of Thrantorbury was sparsely populated.
- The party considered searching the university basements and dormitories, the ruined town, and the Royal Guard auxiliary base for Hicklander contacts, survivors, and allies.
- Missing residents might have hidden, fled, died, or been transformed into aberrations.
- An earlier attempt to find the king through an associated object had revealed nothing.
- The group considered nondetection, heavy shielding, confinement in caverns or pools beneath the high keep, or removal from the castle.
- They also speculated that the king’s blood might connect elven and Hick matters with recent dragon developments.
- The party decided to find the Royal Guards before finalizing the operation.
- Tiphanie detected magic resembling Murkendraw and the Feywild warmth associated with Baba Yaga, the coven, and other hags.
- Something altered and wrong was intermingled with it. She did not recognize it as the Children of the Crone and feared its source was not one of her sisters.
- On the road toward central Thrantorbury, the party found scattered, mutilated bodies whose hearts and eyes had been removed.
- Near the Crown Gate, Minfilia led the cautious advance through territory reportedly patrolled by
Reformists.
- A Perception result of 21 revealed someone peeking out and watching the party.
- When Oscar exposed himself, the watcher fled. The Crown Prince pursued with an apparently step-like magical ability and returned with a boy of about fifteen or sixteen.
- Luana told Minfilia that she and the Crown Prince had formed a partnership, prompting companions to worry that he might be a bad influence.
- The teenage lookout gave the name Pat after being challenged over his first answer, Dennis.
- The boy said cloaked Reformists had taken over while the townspeople began behaving strangely.
- His parents repeatedly left him and his younger sister alone at night.
- His father eventually surrendered his mother to old women who removed her heart.
- The party identified the women as hags and tentatively connected them to the Children of the Crone.
- According to the boy, the upheaval began about five days earlier.
- Royal Guards fought one another and attacked civilians.
- Armed men advanced toward the castle through a tunnel amid explosions and heavy casualties.
- He could not confirm the guards’ current condition or what was happening inside the castle.
- The boy was serving as a lookout for the remaining survivors.
- After the party identified themselves as healers, offered aid, and gave him water, he described refugees sheltered at a base protected by some Royal Guards.
- He warned that they would have to sneak past Reformist harassment, then guided them safely to the camp.
- The Crown Prince appeared deeply guilty while looking at the boy, then steeled himself as though
reaffirming that his earlier actions had been necessary.
- Another companion promised that the boy’s family would be avenged.
- The boy described the Reformist Church as a rogue faction exploiting the Divine Masochist’s name,
transforming innocents into controllable monsters, and possibly maintaining an Apgarian
connection.
- Paladins he expected to fight the Reformists instead acted as their allies and called themselves soldiers of the Divine Masochist.
- These remained the boy’s allegations rather than independently established facts.
- At the survivor camp, a large pavilion held bodies being cleaned for dignified burial.
- Living refugees suffered severe wounds, spell burns, and damaged or missing limbs.
- The party immediately rendered aid.
- Lime cast Healing SpiritLevel 2 · Conjuration1 bonus · 60 ft. · 1 minuteV, SYou call forth a nature spirit to soothe the wounded. - Sergeant Serge served as the camp’s effective contact.
- Several lieutenants were alive but initially unable to command, though healing and rest might restore them.
The Royal Guard’s Account
Section titled “The Royal Guard’s Account”- The Crown Prince field-promoted Serge from sergeant to colonel, subject to any recovered senior officers resuming authority.
- Minfilia Diaz introduced herself as a necromancer, claimed to be pregnant, named Oscar as her
soulmate, and presented Tiphanie as the new court wizard.
- Although necromancers were normally arrested on sight, the guards postponed enforcing that rule.
- Separately, Lime was identified as sixteen and pregnant, with the man helping her described as the baby’s father.
- The guards said residents had behaved strangely for weeks.
- Taverns began operating like brothels, overt sexual gatherings spread, and misconduct became common during the day.
- The group suspected a tactic resembling the tainted vegetables allegedly used to make people
susceptible to beliefs in Eastonton.
- Suspect food might have reached Thrantorbury.
- Officials quarantined, purified, or burned supplies they detected, but cleric shortages let food from trusted suppliers bypass purification.
- This included goods from the fruit merchants’ guild, whose cooperation with the Reformist Church had only recently become known.
- A squad sent to control the gatherings was reportedly drawn in and killed.
- Witnesses described dazed victims, apparent thorn crowns, interpersonal violence, and effects resembling Crown of MadnessLevel 2 · Enchantment1 action · 120 ft. · 1 minuteV, SOne humanoid of your choice that you can see within range must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become charmed by you for the duration. Casting a spell that includes a verbal component is impossible there. was proposed as an explanation, and later testimony implicated chanting hags, but neither was confirmed.
- The Royal Guard signaled and organized for battle, but enemies teleported directly into rooms.
- Fighting became chaotic, casualties mounted, and a planned pincer failed.
- Expected paladin reinforcements from Eastonton attacked the defenders instead.
- The paladins were described as having grown up under Garward in a Reformist environment and converted without realizing it.
- Garward, the Lord Commander, was accused of having betrayed the Crown long ago, although no witness saw him in the battle.
- Hostile paladins targeted spellcasters and killed the remaining healers, while rapidly healing attackers and infiltrators inside the Royal Guard compounded the losses.
- Hundreds of bodies were later gathered for burial in the pavilion.
- Noncombatants who could not be removed from the gatherings began exploding and leaving strange
creatures behind.
- Survivors believed a green liquid reacted with parasites already inside victims’ heads, forcing the parasites to mature, grow within their hosts, and manipulate their minds.
- Refugees and sentries were screened. Most were cleared, while some wounded survivors were isolated for exorcism after a detector sensed parasites.
- The attackers withdrew after a loud call roughly two or three days earlier.
- The defenders fortified the refuge and evacuated some people, but Reformists blocked a breakout through the Crown Gate.
- Carrier pigeons received no response, SendingLevel 3 · Evocation1 action · Unlimited · 1 roundV, S, M (a short piece of fine copper wire)You send a short message of twenty-five words or less to a creature with which you are familiar. You can send the message across any distance and even to other planes of existence, but if the target is on a different plane than you, there is a 5 chance that the message doesn't arrive. casters had been killed, and a signal beacon was doused.
- Royal Guard patrols lower on the slopes or the Navy might otherwise have helped, but the defenders believed the enemy had anticipated those options and disabled the Navy.
- The group considered staging a false attack to rally the remaining forces and divert attention
while another team rescued or seized the king.
- Minfilia proposed waves of undead as the diversion while the prince’s force infiltrated.
- The known tunnel to the castle had collapsed through its middle section, cutting off resupply.
- Its builders reportedly included secret entrances opened by particular magical items.
- An ally familiar with the tunnels said their sword could dispel the entrances’ magic.
- Other ideas included climbing with conjured spiders, using tremor-sensing moles, excavating or transmuting the blockage, and employing skeleton labor.
- Justin sensed what he associated with Orbs of Repulsion hidden in the rubble and doubted ordinary magic could clear it.
- The party considered extracting an orb both as valuable loot and as a weapon against the enemy.
- Paladins and Royal Guards who turned against the defenders had fought through the tunnels and
collapsed the route behind them.
- Explosions and fighting followed inside the castle, which had been quiet for about a day.
- The defenders did not know whether their former friends were mind-controlled.
- A companion recalled Sir Essen’s account after his parasite had been removed in Eastonton: Essen remembered Garward ordering the paladins to withdraw from the war and using his men as a shield.
- Minfilia asked that Garward be left to her and Sir Malmann.
- Lime continued treating survivors through a Luana-shaped Summon FeyLevel 3 · Conjuration1 action · 90 ft. · 1 hourV, S, MYou call forth a fey spirit. It manifests in an unoccupied space that you can see within range. This corporeal form uses the Fey Spirit stat block. When you cast the spell, choose a mood: Fuming, Mirthful, or Tricksy. In combat, the creature shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It obeys your verbal commands (no action required by you). If you don't issue any, it takes the Dodge action and uses its move to avoid danger. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, use the higher level wherever the spell's level appears in the stat block. spirit; the spirit was not Luana herself.
- The party feared that the king or queen would be teleported away once the assault began.
- If the king remained in the castle but locating magic could not find him, the tunnels beneath the high keep seemed the likeliest location.
- The group also feared he was being prepared as a hostage.
- The party believed local Reformists and hags were cooperating but did not know their objective.
- Theories involved Crispin Mallow’s journal, the pools, dragons, valuable dragon remains, a dracolich ritual, Auraxx, or the Elven Boons.
- Another theory held that destroying Thrantorbury was intended to terrorize the population and break captives’ resistance.
- The king might be near pools resembling those at the Thralmals while the enemy sought shards, a dragon, or other boons, but none of this was established.
- Luana was suggested as an infiltration companion because her sleep magic might reduce fighting, although it remained unclear whether it would affect hags.
- The party’s uncertain inventory of the Elven Boons placed the Sapphire Brooch of Winter’s boon
with the enemy and suggested they knew the Summer Sword’s location and possessed at least two
shield fragments.
- They corrected a seasonal mix-up: the Emerald Shield belongs to Spring; the Ruby Amulet of Fall is the Autumn boon. The discussion did not establish a reliable current custody list.
Orbs, Spies, and the Gathering Coven
Section titled “Orbs, Spies, and the Gathering Coven”- Luana removed her magical equipment and tested an Orb of Repulsion on the Crown Prince.
- It weakened him, suppressed his spellcasting and apparent magical invulnerability, but did not blunt his sword.
- Bringing the orb against the sword produced ripple-like distortions until Luana withdrew it.
- The group believed a small orb became inactive inside a Bag of HoldingUncommon15 lb.This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action. If the bag is overloaded, pierced, or torn, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane. If the bag is turned inside out, its contents spill forth, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again. Breathing creatures inside the bag can survive up to a number of minutes equal to 10 divided by the number of creatures (minimum 1 minute), after which time they begin to suffocate. Placing a bag of holding inside an extradimensional space created by a Heward's handy haversack, portable hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can't be reopened. even though the container remained magical.
- They contrasted this with larger Orbs of Repulsion or Absorption, including one Miya reportedly saw draining nearby magical items.
- The interaction among orbs, Bags of Holding, Portable HoleRareThis fine black cloth, soft as silk, is folded up to the dimensions of a handkerchief. It unfolds into a circular sheet 6 feet in diameter. You can use an action to unfold a portable hole and place it on or against a solid surface, whereupon the portable hole creates an extradimensional hole 10 feet deep. The cylindrical space within the hole exists on a different plane, so it can't be used to create open passages. Any creature inside an open portable hole can exit the hole by climbing out of it. You can use an action to close a portable hole by taking hold of the edges of the cloth and folding it up. Folding the cloth closes the hole, and any creatures or objects within remain in the extradimensional space. No matter what's in it, the hole weighs next to nothing. If the hole is folded up, a creature within the hole's extradimensional space can use an action to make a 10 Strength check. On a successful check, the creature forces its way out and appears within 5 feet of the portable hole or the creature carrying it. A breathing creature within a closed portable hole can survive for up to 10 minutes, after which time it begins to suffocate. Placing a portable hole inside an extradim…, and other pocket dimensions remained uncertain.
- The party theorized that the wizard’s tower had been absorbed by a smaller orb that grew as it consumed magic.
- The group concluded that it had to rescue or extract the king or eventually proclaim a successor.
- At least one possible successor said they were not ready to rule.
- The party considered using tiny orb-like sprites from Surrey’s Ear against the tunnel stones.
- Similar sprites had fought a fire drake in an eastern town, but the group did not know whether any were nearby or whether the shattered ruby could still command them.
- Minfilia magically contacted Eskabeth Kilsward and reported that hostile crones had killed
many people in Thrantorbury.
- The contact discussed bringing Royal Guards and other sisters, while the party suggested invoking Tiphanie’s name to secure their interest.
- After correcting the objective from the Ring of Winter to the Brooch of Winter, the party said it intended to travel toward it.
- The allies promised to arrive within an hour of receiving the location.
- The party decided that whoever had originally bargained with the hags should conduct further negotiations, since rescuing the Malthrek boy might already have fulfilled the obligation.
- Jeff returned with a live pigeon whose wings he had injured to prevent its escape.
- Other rats reported that the magical bird had watched the area for some time.
- The party judged it most likely to be a familiar left to spy and later return, although its communication range was unknown.
- Tiphanie removed one of the pigeon familiar’s eyes as a warning to its owner.
- Oscar healed it enough to survive.
- Its flight through the mountain route toward the castle reinforced the party’s belief that hags were already there.
- The party warned Eskabeth that hags occupied the castle.
- Sisters prepared to fight the Children of the Crone teleported to the outskirts near the Royal Guard base, beyond the reported range of the HallowLevel 5 · Evocation24 hour · Touch · Until dispelledV, S, MYou touch a point and infuse an area around it with holy (or unholy) power. - After a brief magical clash, they returned with Reformists: some dead and intended for dismemberment, others alive for interrogation.
- A hag assessed that some captives were young descendants of the coven’s children who had settled
in this world.
- She said her sisters still gathered power through old practices taught by another sister whose name was unclear.
- A living captive called himself Matisse, identified himself as a Reformist conjurer, and admitted that conjured creatures were sometimes used sexually.
- Matisse said the castle contained Children of the Crone from several groups, Reformists, and
paladins of uncertain affiliation.
- He had not personally seen Garward Eastonton there but had heard that Eastonton would be present.
- His latest information placed the king inside the castle.
- The king was to be killed after serving an unknown purpose.
- People spreading rumors about him reportedly had their tongues removed.
- The Reformists reportedly intended to take the queen to Sanery once they learned how to take
elves out of Senera.
- They also planned to remove the Veil by an unknown method.
- When asked about transport, Matisse named teleportation but no alternative.
- Matisse identified Port Torters as a possible dock or access point. The port lies near the headwaters of the Brams River.
- Mount Torters was described as several mountains away.
- On arriving, Eskabeth warmly embraced Minfilia and asked about her baby; Minfilia preferred to
wait for a gender reveal.
- Tiphanie bowed, but the introduction became tense when the visitor’s claimed age and origins were challenged.
- She said she came from the Feywild and was old, though not old enough to predate the traversal.
- After an identity test, another hag accepted her as genuine and learned that the Mother had summoned them.
- The visitor said souls stranded in these lands could now enter the Mother’s embrace because the
addressed hag was present.
- She requested help destroying a false Baba Yaga, whom she described as a Mother tainted by aberration.
- The hags said they could not bring the tainted rival to Murkendraw and mourned their lost home.
- One remembered only how Murkendraw felt; another promised to bring her and their separated sisters home.
- They agreed to set aside old divisions and fight the false sisters they called rebels.
- Tiphanie silently invoked an existing blood deal to summon more hags.
- Although Minfilia had not formally admitted them through the Hallow, the deal allowed them to overcome its resistance, and some teleported directly into the refuge.
- About twenty-five arrived, with more reportedly traveling from Torters.
- Tiphanie began addressing the assembly.
The Coalition Marches
Section titled “The Coalition Marches”- Probably Tiphanie welcomed the assembled hags as sisters.
- Some regarded the party reverently, while younger hags seemed confused but sensed enough strength to listen.
- The immediate objectives were to rescue the king, queen, and court wizards and learn whether the king’s madness had been inflicted upon him.
- The party’s intervention in Senera had exposed a broader conflict involving the Reformist Church, the Children of the Crone, and aberrations.
- The hags described their arrangement with the Crown as mutual noninterference.
- They normally avoided royal affairs unless a member of the royal family requested their involvement.
- When someone questioned why the Dragonhearts lacked a hag agreement comparable to Maidenfeld’s, a hag referred to as Agatha was identified as the likely source of answers.
- The hags offered Reformist body parts as rewards for assistance, receiving affirmative responses.
- A feint was proposed so the Crown Prince and Tiphanie could enter the castle.
- When a hag required a request from the royal line, narration established that something within Tiphanie carried royal blood and fulfilled the requirement.
- The local teleportation circle was operational.
- Rannekford was considered because it had a healing station, but the group chose Eastonton because Rannekford had limited supplies and more people to support.
- The Lady of Eastonton was alive and was a hag.
- A Reformist had infiltrated her circle and planted a parasite on her, but she fought it off.
- Her attempts to contact her coven had failed, so the group urged the allied hags to renew contact and seek her intelligence.
- The hags reported no agreement with Rannekford’s hags.
- They described an existing deal involving hags connected to Thralmals and another uncertainly named place, but further contact would be required to rally them.
- Hags who already knew Lime welcomed her as a sister.
- They observed that she had become less reserved.
- Lime admitted she still had doubts but now had more to protect and lose and could no longer remain the uncertain girl she had been.
- The hags promised to reopen the Realm Bridge so Lime and the others could return to the Feywild.
- They were also fulfilling an old agreement to help an elf.
- A separate bargain offering information about Lime’s parents remained available, although Lime said she could earn the truth herself.
- The immediate evacuation plan sent civilians to Eastonton.

- Lime was disturbed by the resurrection and compared it with what had been done to Flancer Kincade.
- Minfilia called the restored people her children, suggesting a similar necromantic relationship.
- Kelthyr likely remained with the Crown Prince to help save his mother, hoping she was still
present.
- The Veil prevented an immediate teleport to Sanery, though someone offered resurrection if necessary.
- Luana agreed to accompany the group despite her fear because she wanted to help Kelthyr.
- When Luana greeted the hags, one noticed that two visitors carried a Feywild tinge.
- A companion said Mommy came from the Feywild but cherished those memories and preferred to keep them private.
- Luana drew a circle on Eskabeth’s palm and wished her a good sleep after the job.
- The gesture was apparently intended as a charm for a good night’s rest; no magical effect was established.
- The group described the Feywild as marvelous but dangerous.
- Fomorians were counted among its lesser threats, and the hags warned that the Archfey were the ones to be most wary of. The warning reflected their hatred of most Archfey.
- The battle plan divided the coalition into small formations, placed its strongest combatants in front, prioritized rescuing civilians, cleared Reformists from the town and tunnels, and reserved the castle assault for the Crown Prince’s signal.
- Minfilia raised her staff, invoked the Great Erected One, pledged her loyalty and faith, asked for
power, and commanded the dead to rise.
- Black-and-green energy swirled around the glowing staff.
- Dead humanoids, dogs, and other animals rose inside and outside the camp, including bodies forced to crawl on broken limbs.
- Minfilia advanced cackling beside Oscar and her undead army.
- Soldiers and civilians panicked, but the Crown Prince ordered them to hold and promised that the undead would not harm them.
- Tiphanie’s phrase “Life and death” prompted the observation that Minfilia offered both despite being a necromancer.
- Observers described Minfilia’s staff as an extension of her power.
- One repeated an unverified story that she tore it from her dead master’s hands and speculated that the staff chose its master.
- Hags moved against Reformists who were killing their friends’ spawn.
- Their plan to turn enemies into allies involved killing them first and using necromancy afterward.
- Minfilia’s undead and the hags drove toward the town and tunnel, while Tiphanie followed with the Crown Prince and Royal Guards.
- Tiphanie did not intend to use the Orb of DragonkindArtifact · requires attunement3 lb.Ages past, on the world of Krynn, elves and humans waged a terrible war against evil dragons. When the world seemed doomed, the wizards of the Towers of High Sorcery came together and worked their greatest magic, forging five Orbs of Dragonkind (or Dragon Orbs) to help them defeat the dragons. One orb was taken to each of the five towers, and there they were used to speed the war toward a victorious end. The wizards used the orbs to lure dragons to them, then destroyed the dragons with powerful magic. As the Towers of High Sorcery fell in later ages, the orbs were destroyed or faded into legend, and only three are thought to survive. Their magic has been warped and twisted over the centuries, so although their primary purpose of calling dragons still functions, they also allow some measure of control over dragons. Each orb contains the essence of an evil dragon, a presence that resents any attempt to coax magic from it. Those lacking in force of personality might find themselves enslaved to an orb. An orb is an etched crystal globe about 10 inches in diameter. When used, it grows to about 20 inches in diameter, and mist swirls inside it. While attuned to an orb, you can use an act… immediately.
- She wanted not merely to bring the hags home but to gather the dragons within the orb’s reported five-mile range and shepherd them back to the Feywild.
- Tiphanie remained unusually quiet and affectionate toward the Crown Prince, following him, taking his hand, squeezing it, and nodding when he asked whether she was ready.
- Minfilia’s undead relentlessly struck the Reformist lines.
- Some recovered enough former training to use weapons properly.
- The party could not tell whether fragments of their souls remained or their bodies merely remembered old skills.
- The hags overwhelmed stronger Reformists who survived the undead assault.
- Combined spellcasting leveled some of Thrantorbury’s remaining buildings.
- The living soldiers, Tiphanie, and the Crown Prince advanced without becoming entangled in the main fighting.
- Luana asked whether Minfilia frightened Kelthyr.
- He likely admitted that she did while expressing relief that she was their ally.
- Luana probably mentioned Minfilia’s promise to raise her if she died; Kelthyr likely answered that they should avoid letting her die.
Breaking Through the Tunnel
Section titled “Breaking Through the Tunnel”- The group feared the captors were attempting to break an elven mother’s will.
- They hoped to rescue her before a transfer to Sanery or the Blightlands.
- The Thralmals pools might help restore her mind, though her condition and destination were uncertain.
- Minfilia reportedly said Sir Lance Rannek intended to marry an elf, prompting surprise and interest in attending the wedding.
- Angel was described as capable and quick to learn.
- One person credited another with training her, though that person accepted little credit.
- Undead approaching the tunnel obstruction collapsed under the Orb of Repulsion’s force.
- Alternatives included climbing through a small mountain opening with spider-like aid, crossing an approximately five-hundred-foot gap, or clearing the tunnel nonmagically with siege weapons, including one crudely nicknamed the “ass fucker.”
- The party rejected black powder because it might worsen the collapse.
- Undead instead carried Eastonton’s large lighthouse enhancement orb toward the obstruction while Tiphanie cast Transmute RockLevel 5 · Transmutation1 action · 120 ft. · Until dispelledV, S, M (clay and water)You choose an area of stone or mud that you can see that fits within a 40-foot cube and is within range, and choose one of the following effects. A creature must also make the saving throw when it moves into the area for the first time on a turn or ends its turn there. On a failed save, a creature sinks into the mud and is restrained, though it can use an action to end the restrained condition on itself by pulling itself free of the mud. - The enhancement orb let the undead cross the earlier repulsor boundary, then glowed violently and appeared to lose magic near the buried orbs.
- Tiphanie nevertheless turned part of the rubble into air, exposing intact repulsor orbs and clearing most of the obstruction.
- With Luana’s help, the group recovered seven small Orbs of Repulsion.
- Handling them felt uncomfortable because they seemed to push or leech magic away rather than consume it outright.
- Absorption orbs were considered more frightening.
- On Minfilia’s advice, seven Royal Guards each received an Orb of Repulsion for use against hags
and spellcasters.
- Minfilia claimed the orbs blocked magical healing while protecting bearers from magic and charms.
- The guards were warned that physical attacks could still injure them.
- Tiphanie used another spell slot to remove the remaining blockage.

- Minfilia sent crowded ranks of undead through the tunnel first.
- Malmann stayed with the group as an honor guard while the other undead spread out to create chaos.
- The Crown Prince used the Topaz Sword of the Summer to dispel a solid magical barrier and reveal a
secret entrance.
- Tiphanie directed Kelthyr, Luana, and the seven orb-bearing guards through its cramped opening into a broader stone passage with carved steps.
- Minfilia tortured a captured Reformist for Garward Eastonton’s location.
- She demanded that Garward be brought to her, offered to spare the king, and threatened to destroy the castle with black powder when no answer came.
- Tiphanie corrected an initial statement involving Ashpitel: she had traded the golem for the Red
Dragon Mask and had not built another, though she retained a golem manual.
- She examined the Red Dragon Mask and lent it to Luana.
- She repeatedly called it uncursed while saying that Garlax’s soul was part of it. Its wearer was described as appearing to mourn; the discussion did not independently authenticate the claimed remains or settle possible effects on a wearer.
- The group discussed Tiphanie’s golem-building ability.
- Someone proposed transforming one of their dolls into a golem out of professional curiosity, and the prospective teacher said she would consider it.
- Marlion led the party along a quiet, circuitous route with known traps marked.
- Marlion warned of a slippery descent that threw travelers from a cliff.

- Strandiz and Renault Bouillard were identified as members of the team that killed a dracolich, with Renault wielding a vorpal sword.
- Vorpal Swords were described as exceptionally powerful Feywild weapons that revealed themselves only to heroes.
- Somme, leader of La Camaraderie, reportedly used one to kill an evil archfey and help free people from a Feywild time loop, though the child being addressed was credited with technically freeing them.
- An unnamed woman urged the prince to accept Mommy’s help after rescuing his father.
- She then led the group onward and warned that another route entered a lava pit.
- A previous victim said their sword protected their body in the lava but left their mundane clothes tattered.
- The group discussed bargains with hags, demons, and devils.
- Minfilia advised interpreting every agreement technically and word for word, with devils considered especially literal.
- The group recounted how the impoverished twins Wilhelm and Hans summoned Sensodyne and requested
bread.
- Because she did not know what bread was, she left to learn and reconnected with them years later.
- Their pact reportedly weakened her while they were apart.
- She later led a devil army in a Feywild conflict compared with the Blood War.
- She entered the Feywild in disguise and therefore avoided becoming trapped there.
- A powerful map once held by Cotto reportedly included or summoned a fairy who could travel between
realms while the map remained with its bearer.
- Ines inherited the map, manor, and fortune of her adoptive mother, Teresa Cicero.
- The supposed ghost in the manor was reportedly a fairy or pixie.
- Teresa was recognized as a former spymaster who served a companion’s grandfather.
- The map was said to come from Senera and to have guided entry into the Feywild, with the Maidenfelds accused of exploiting it.
- One speaker speculated that the map belonged to the grandfather’s efforts to help Senera; another confirmed the family still employed spymasters for necessary field work.
Inside Castle Dragonheart
Section titled “Inside Castle Dragonheart”- The group heard that Ness was afraid to live in her own home because an unseen familiar seemed to be a ghost.
- An account described Lady Hedwig as extremely rich and said her banker
parents in Nura could handle the group’s financial needs.
- Her noble bearing and striking resemblance to Queen Arcadia had prompted a dream.
- After waking aboard the ship, someone briefly wondered whether the group was still in the Feywild.
- Tiphanie reportedly smuggled herself aboard with Trajan’s permission.
- She surprised observers by leaping aboard as a cat and suddenly becoming a child.
- The group discussed hags bargaining with their sisters and other covens.
- Tiphanie recalled her powerful deal with the Torters coven, and the group connected that deal to the coven’s willingness to help. The exchange did not restate the exact terms.
- Long before the War of Time and Fire, and before magic disappeared completely, the Crown
reportedly allowed hags to keep to themselves if they made no deals against it.
- The arrangement involved the Maidenfelds.
- The War of Time and Fire was identified as a centuries-old civil war between the Maidenfelds and Dragonhearts.
- The group recalled the Poasan-Apgarian Conflict,
which lasted from 1250 to 1255.
- Poasah and Apgar disputed Garatonian territory inhabited by caravan-traveling nomads.
- The land was agriculturally poor but rich in iron and diamonds needed for newly discovered magic.
- Apgar accused Poasah and the Thirteen of exploiting the inhabitants, while Poasah disputed the allegation.
- Senera supported Poasah because of a religious alignment.
- The conflict was also described as a struggle for the religion’s heart and soul.
- Poasah’s kings held political authority, while the primate of Poasah led the Church of the Divine Masochist in the Western Sphere and claimed religious primacy.
- Tiphanie returned everyone’s attention to the operation.
- They were only a few turns from emerging beneath the high keep near the pools.
- The interior passage accommodated humanoids but not a dragon’s full form, although there would be room outside.
- The route ended at a concealed broom-closet entrance resembling one at Castle Malthrek.
- Such entrances were described as easy to install, commonly overlooked, and barred to unauthorized people.
- Marlion used a nonmagical Dragonheart sigil as the key: the magical mechanism detected it and opened the wall when he inserted it.
- Opening the wall knocked a broom and buckets toward the steps.
- An unidentified man caught them and moved them aside before they fell farther.
- Expecting Reformists nearby, the group agreed everyone needed masks against a powerful
sleep-inducing substance.
- Kelthyr distributed masks to the accompanying guards.
- Luana asked the guards to endure the procedure, then produced a censer and a pouch
of tiny vials.
- She put back an empty essential-oil vial and opened a filled vial containing the Essence of Dream.
- The surviving recording ends during this preparation. The continuation below comes from the campaign maintainer’s post-session recollection, not recorded dialogue.
Beneath the High Keep — Post-session Recollection
Section titled “Beneath the High Keep — Post-session Recollection”This continuation records the campaign maintainer’s account of the unrecorded ending. It is a broad-strokes recollection, not a transcript, and has no recording timestamps.
- Marlion’s secret passage emerged into a basement beneath the High Keep, with corridors broad enough for an adolescent dragon. The party hoped to find the king at the divining pool farther below.
- Wearing masks against the smoke, the party used Luana’s Essence of Dream censer to put nearby
hags to sleep before they could act.
- Beyond them, an intricately stone-shaped staircase descended to a broad landing where more hags were resting, expecting the fighting to remain above and outside the Keep.
- The weakest hags succumbed to the smoke, but others remained awake. Before they could react, Tiphanie transformed into an adult silver dragon, surprising her own companions as well.
- The attack drove the awake defenders toward the wall at the landing’s edge.
- Luana cast Hunger of HadarLevel 3 · Conjuration1 action · 150 ft. · 1 minuteV, S, M (a pickled octopus tentacle)You open a gateway to the dark between the stars, a region infested with unknown horrors. Any creature that ends its turn in the area must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d6 acid damage as milky, otherworldly tentacles rub against it., blinding them and hindering escape while Tiphanie assaulted them with her breath weapon.
- At Marlion’s order, the seven orb-bearing Royal Guards advanced to cover the party. Their orbs protected them against the hags’ predominantly magical attacks.
- Marlion entered the Hunger of Hadar and attacked freely, protected by the Summer Sword even from Tiphanie’s breath.
- After exhausting her breath weapons, Tiphanie returned to her usual form to give the others room to move. The hags began retreating, but the battle was not over.
- Kelthyr used Thunder StepLevel 3 · Conjuration1 action · 90 ft. · InstantaneousVYou teleport yourself to an unoccupied space you can see within range. of the landing to cover the retreat.
- The hags tried to imprison the guards and Marlion behind iron bars, but the orbs and the prince’s sword defeated the barriers.
- A strong attack brought Kelthyr and Luana down. Marlion used a refreshing step in their direction, giving Luana temporary hit points, then raged and slashed a hag.
- Luana got up and replenished her censer. Another three hags fell asleep, leaving only the strongest fighting.
- Tiphanie unleashed powerful twinned spells, emboldened by the magical protection covering much
of the party. Poor rolls for the remaining hags helped bring them down.
- After Tiphanie confirmed that she had no further need for the hags, Marlion beheaded them.
- Luana gave Kelthyr a healing potion. The shock of regaining consciousness triggered a Wild Magic
Surge, with rolls of 4 and 44 on the campaign table.
- Kelthyr received a mankini outfit illusion and Luana a revealing sling-style outfit illusion.
- The Wild Magic table gives the effect a ten-minute duration and leaves gear functional. Kelthyr had never experienced it before and did not know its duration.
- Tiphanie urged the party to continue immediately rather than wait for the illusions to end.
- Amusement and concern for Marlion’s father were suggested as possible motives, not established knowledge of her thoughts.
- The session ended with the party intending to search for the king at once. They had not yet reached the divining pool or found him.
Open Hooks
Section titled “Open Hooks”The Royal Rescue and the Capital
Section titled “The Royal Rescue and the Capital”- Reach the divining pool beneath the High Keep and find King Alitar and Queen Murwes before the captors can kill or transfer them. Assess Murwes’s condition and whether the pools can help her.
- Locate Garward and rescue Madeline. The earlier mission to expose his crimes before a paladin and kill him remains unfinished; neither his arrival nor his personal possession of the Sapphire Brooch of Winter has been established.
- Discover what the captors require from the king and whether his madness was inflicted. The
reported execution threat and proposed transfer of the queen to Sanery remain urgent leads,
not completed events.
- The party considered his blood, the pools, dragons, Crispin Mallow’s journal, and the Elven Boons as possible leads; these theories do not establish one connected mechanism.
- Determine the outcome of the wider castle battle, the surviving defenders’ condition, and the causes of the earlier explosions and silence. The secret approach and landing battle are complete; the whole castle has not been secured.
- Follow through on the planned civilian evacuation to Eastonton and advanced treatment for survivors. Colonel Serge’s field promotion was provisional; recovering senior officers and a durable command structure remain relevant.
- Restore contact with outside forces after the failed pigeons, Sending, and beacon, and determine what happened to the Navy and nearby patrols.
- Learn the lookout’s younger sister’s condition and the fate of other missing or transformed townspeople, guards, Hicklanders, and university residents.
Infestation and the Enemy Coalition
Section titled “Infestation and the Enemy Coalition”- Identify those responsible for taking victims’ hearts and eyes and for the altered Feywild magic. The boy’s identification of old women and the party’s suspicion of the Children of the Crone remain distinct from proof of the whole operation.
- Establish the connections among contaminated supplies, the fruit merchants’ guild, the green
liquid, parasites, behavioral changes, and transformed victims. Determine responsibility,
remaining infection risk, and the limits of screening and exorcism.
- Determine how the dispatched spellcasters were prevented from casting and whether chanting hags were responsible; the suggested Silence spell was not confirmed.
- Determine whether the hostile paladins and Royal Guard defectors acted willingly, under conditioning, or under control, and clarify Garward’s role and reported withdrawal order.
- Follow the captive’s intelligence about the king, queen, removal of elves, and intended removal of the Veil. His report does not establish Garward’s presence or the castle paladins’ loyalties.
- Learn what the Lady of Eastonton knows about the Reformist infiltration and the parasite she resisted, and whether further allied covens can be contacted.
- Identify the pigeon familiar’s owner and what intelligence or warning reached them.
Hag Bargains, the Veil, and Stranded Souls
Section titled “Hag Bargains, the Veil, and Stranded Souls”- Determine how the allied hags intend to destroy the false Baba Yaga and what her aberrant taint means. Their claim that stranded souls can now enter the Mother’s embrace raises further questions about the lost, collected bounties, and the souls’ fate.
- Clarify the older Maidenfeld bargain terms and their relationship to the Crown’s described noninterference arrangement. The hags proposed consulting their sister, referred to as Agatha; the existence of an arrangement and intervention upon a royal request are already described.
- Reopen the Realm Bridge and follow through on the old agreement to help an elf. Information about Lime’s parents remains available through a further bargain, but she has not accepted it.
Artifacts and Other Continuing Leads
Section titled “Artifacts and Other Continuing Leads”- Establish the seasonal boons’ current holders and fragment locations, keeping the known artifact identities distinct from the party’s uncertain inventory and enemy-custody claims.
- Clarify the orbs’ interactions with Bags of Holding and other pocket dimensions, their size and
range limits, and the implications for the large Eastonton orb. Repulsion suppressing magic and
absorption siphoning it are established distinctions, not new discoveries required here.
- The tunnel is already cleared; untried sprite and rubble-clearing alternatives are no longer prerequisites for entry.
- Follow Tiphanie’s intended use of the Orb of Dragonkind to gather dragons and return them to the Feywild; no use of the orb has been established here.
- Clarify the Red Dragon Mask’s provenance and possible influence beyond Tiphanie’s account of Garlax’s soul. Her Ashpitel-for-mask trade is reported; authentication of the remains and effects on the wearer remain separate questions.
- Follow the story of Teresa Cicero’s map and its fairy, its inter-realm travel capabilities, Teresa’s departure, and the alleged Maidenfeld exploitation. The story does not establish every proposed mechanism or allegation.
Confirmations Needed
Section titled “Confirmations Needed”- Verify the name of the Torters hag referred to as Agatha; she is not Sister Agatha Thralvig.
- The names of the other two resurrected healers remain unrecovered; Sarwen is identified.
Boundaries
Section titled “Boundaries”- The boy’s allegations, the captive’s statements, the guards’ testimony, historical stories, and party theories remain attributed accounts rather than independently verified facts.
- Known seasonal artifact names and magical suppression by repulsion orbs do not settle current custody, every item interaction, or every claimed protection and healing limitation. The guards’ successful defenses are observed uses, not a guarantee against physical attacks.
- The final battle and Wild Magic Surge are preserved from post-session recollection. They do not establish arrival at the divining pool, rescue of the royals, or a completed confrontation with Garward.
