University of Thrantorbury

The University of Thrantorbury is a prestigious institution in Thrantorbury, the mountain capital of the Kingdom of Senera. Its colleges teach magical disciplines alongside natural sciences, public administration, and maritime studies. Cartography is a particular strength; its maritime program is more modest, limited by its inland setting and the waters available for practical instruction.

The Main Campus occupies the northern academic core. The Library stands to its west, with Natural Sciences farther southwest. The university also has a geography department; dormitories near it housed Matthew Malthrek during his studies. The plan does not assign the department or his room to a particular building.

The Public Administration Campus lies northeast of the central Quad. The university’s own school administration offices stand behind it, to the north, distinct from the teaching campus.

The specialist colleges are distributed around the central campus:

  • College of Divination: on the western side, south of Natural Sciences.
  • College of Theology: southwest of the Church of the Angel of Civilization.
  • College of Transmutation: farther southwest, near the southwestern residential enclave.
  • College of Illusion: east of Public Administration and northeast of the Artefactory.
  • College of Enchantment: on the eastern side, south of Illusion.
  • College of Abjuration: southeast of the Quad, above the Grounds.
  • College of Evocation: on the southeastern edge, beside the lower Grounds and lagoon.

The Artefactory, the university’s Artificer College, stands east of the Quad. It is separate from the neighboring colleges of Illusion, Enchantment, and Abjuration.

The Quad is a central gathering place, with a fountain at its heart. Gardens, benches, and outdoor study areas are interspersed around it and along the surrounding walks. A cafeteria stands just southwest of the Quad, near the routes to the academic buildings and Gymnasium.

The Church of the Angel of Civilization stands west of the Quad and south of the Main Campus. The Gymnasium lies farther south. Garden seating, shaded study spots, and leisure spaces break up the routes between the colleges and the Grounds.

Student accommodation is divided among three enclaves: the Northwest Dormitories, Northeast Dormitories, and Southwest Dormitories. Faculty residences occupy a separate area north of the Main Campus.

The Grounds descend toward a lagoon in the lowest part of the campus. This is the only nearby body of water large enough for the university’s maritime practical studies.

The College of Maritime Studies occupies a separate building near the College of Evocation and the lagoon. Its courses include Maritime Cartography, the subject studied by Matthew Malthrek. The lagoon allows for practical instruction, though it does not make the mountain university a major center of seafaring training.

Evocationists also practice in this lower area to limit potential damage to the rest of the campus. The plan separates their practice terraces from the maritime boat landing.

A teleportation circle lies beneath the university. It was reported compromised during the Vengeful affair, preventing its use as a route into or out of Thrantorbury. Its chamber and access route are not shown on the campus plan.
